Nostalgia
Today we are using the magic of Escape Rooms to travel back to our childhoods in the 90's.
'Nostalgia will require only Congletons finest detectives to help solve the mystery of exactly where items from Matts collection of 80s/90s memorabilia keep disappearing to!!!
We do have some suspicions as we have recently reviewed CCTV footage and have spotted what can only appear to be 2 little Italian Plumbers moving the likes of Lucy's Cabbage Patch Kid and Amy's Tamagotchi!!!!! ????'
Who was the Game Master?
We were greeted by our host, Matt, who talked us through the safety briefing and the background story to the room. Matt was incredibly knowledgeable about escape rooms in general, and this enthusiasm shone through.
What was the story?
We had 60 minutes to look for Lario and Muigi, the 2 pesky Italian plumbers who had hidden some of Matt, Lucy and Amy's childhood toys.
This room was slightly different to what we were used to, we had our main objective (Lario and Muigi), we then had to ensure we found all 10 of the toys that were hidden by them and all within the 60 minute time frame.
How were clues and remaining time communicated?
The timing and clue system also differed as we had a stopwatch to keep track of our own time and walkie-talkies for any clues we may need, although we were warned that they would come at a price (a fun forfeit.) This was very novel in our opinion!
What was the room like?
We were taken up the stairs and entered the room, where we were immediately transported back to our childhood bedrooms! It was the perfect representation of a 90's child's bedroom, which was awesome. As soon as we entered, we started our stopwatch and our fun began!
We started to look around the room to see what clues we could find, the room was filled with posters, toys and even a bookshelf with your typical 90's paraphernalia. It also had an awesome soundtrack of classic throwback hits! We had a variety of locks to open including Directional, Word, Colour-Coded and even.... plain old keys!
We completed the first few puzzles and were provided with a key, a small key but a key nonetheless. We instantly knew what this was for, the backpack we were provided to collect the toys in. As we did more puzzles and collected more toys, the closer we got to, what we thought was, the end.
However, after a number of different puzzles, the odd boogie to some amazing classic songs, we opened another lock, which led us to an unexpected surprise (we won't spoil it for you!) We found more boxes to open, puzzles to complete and a few more throwback songs to keep us dancing...there was still plenty to do before the we found the pesky pair of plumbers.
This room had so many puzzles and kept us challenged yet thoroughly entertained for the entire time we were in there, there was no puzzle that was too farfetched or confusing that made the game stop. The puzzles were creative, original and flowed effortlessly, some clues were signposted right there next to the padlock and with a few 'face-palm' moments when we realised "we should have seen that."
How did we do?
We succeeded! We managed to find all of the missing toys and those pesky culprits and managed to complete it all with (a leaderboard topping) 13:37 minutes left!
